Detection, Recovery and Examination of Footwear Impression Evidence Held at Jacksonville, Florida - March 5-9, 2012
This is a 4 1/2-day course for forensic examiners who examine footwear evidence and testify in court to their findings. Crime scene technicians that recovery this evidence are also welcome! The course provides instruction and hands on experience in key areas, including the recovery methods of photography, casting and lifting from the examiner’s perspective; enhancement of bloody impressions; the evaluation of class and identifying characteristics; footwear sizing issues and the examination and reporting process. Other related topics including the manufacturing of footwear as it relates to the examination, preparation of known exemplars, barefoot impressions and contusions are also covered. Attendees will receive a copy of Footwear Impression Evidence: Detection, Recovery and Examinationand will work approximately 30-35 exercises, including approximately 20 comparative examinations. Recovery of Footwear and Tire Impression Evidence Held at the FBI Field Office, 1501 Freeway Blvd., Brooklyn Center, MN 55430 May 22-24, 2012 (Course is approved by the Minnesota POST Board)
This 20-hour, 2 1/2 day course is designed for crime scene technicians, criminal investigators, ERT
members and others who need to improve their understanding of and learn to
treat and recover footwear and tire evidence. The course provides extensive
information to assist the attendees in understanding why footwear and tire
impression evidence is important, the best methods and materials to recover it,
how impression evidence can assist the investigation, and the types of
examination services and results that can be expected. Included are
demonstrations and hands-on instruction of how to document, photograph and cast
impressions, the use of several methods of lifting impressions including
electrostatic methods, and the latest methods and formulations for chemically
enhancing impressions both at the crime scene and in the laboratory. Numerous
other related topics are also covered, including shoe sizing, blunt force
pattern injuries on bodies made by footwear and tires, footwear and tire
databases, tire track measurements and barefoot impressions. Case histories
